In this role, World View is looking for an engineering professional skilled in designing and implementing cost-effective hardware applicable for World Views stratospheric balloon systems, improving safety and reliability, planning and designing new processes, solving complex problems, and collaborating with other professionals to execute projects. Research, analytical, conceptual and planning skills. This job would be about 50% hands on and about 50% computer work. We are specifically looking for the following qualifications:

 Technical Proficiency:

  • MS Office
  • MathCad
  • SolidWorks/Pro Engineer
  • Design Skills
  • Proficiency in concept of test fixtures and components for testing both in schematics and test plans as well as concept design for flight hardware
  • Ability to do solid modeling of flight hardware and build of test fixtures (from start to finish), components used for testing in:
    • Design
    • Build
    • Check
  • Ability to create:
    • Machine Drawings
    • Work instructions for assembly builds
    • Design & development books for flight assemblies
  • Present Technical Information
  • Instrument Redesign
  • Supervisor and Management Skills a plus


  • Managing the Aerodynamic Decent Systems (ADS) area
    • ADS parts inventory
    • ADS tool inventory
    • Handling shipping when required
    • Maintaining canopy hoists and overhead lifting equipment
  • Participating in operations
    • Learning the launch process for the ADS team
    • Helping develop flight-line procedures
    • Eventually becoming a sub for ADS launches
  • Helping schedule techs and production assembly tasks
    • Work with on-site people when issues come up with production processes
  • Work on:
    • Doing first assembly and prototyping
    • Building test fixtures
    • Executing tests
    • Participating in operations


(Experience in one or more of the following): 

  • Aircraft fuselage design/development
  • Deployment mechanisms
  • Structures design
  • Thermal analysis and design
  • ECLSS design
  • Some exposure to parachutes, paragliders or inflatable wings of any type is a bonus, but not required
  • Experience with industrial equipment and design experience applicable to large balloon launch systems
  • Candidates must be US Citizens or US permanent residents


  • Minimum of a B.S. in related engineering field, or equivalent
  • 2 years combined work and internship experience
